EPA's new lead paint rule

After April 22, 2010 each contractor, property manager and landlord working on residential properties and child occupied facilities built prior to 1978 will be required to have successfully complete this 8-hour EPA Renovator course from an accredited training provider.

Have you registered your Special Mobile Machinery?

The Mesa County Clerk and Recorder office has been performing field inspections on equipment for more than a decade. However, in 2008 the Colorado Department of Revenue requested that Mesa County impose the administrative penalties and they are stepping that up. They have been in the field recently and are imposing these penalties for machinery not registered. Please see the brochure for more information.


Cap and Trade Symposium

The Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a symposium on December 2nd to discuss the Cap and Trade legislation that has passed the U.S. House of Representatives and is currently being considered in the U.S. Senate. The meeting was not intended to discuss the validity of Climate Change or its causes but to review the economic impacts of the proposed legislation. Read More.


Solar Option Required

Beginning August 10, 2009, all builders are required to offer a solar option upgrade to buyers with whom they contract for the purchase of new single-family detached homes.  Read More


Carbon Monoxide Detectors Required

Beginning July 1, 2009, it became mandatory that carbon monoxide (CO) detectors be installed in the following circumstances:

  • Prior to the sale of all single-family homes (both new and existing) containing fuel-fired heaters or appliances, fireplaces, or attached garages;
  • Prior to the sale of all multi-family dwellings (both new and existing) containing fuel-fired heaters or appliances, fireplaces, or attached garages;
  • Prior to a change in tenant occupancy in all rental units containing fuel-fired heaters or appliances, fireplaces, or attached garages;
  • When a building permit is obtained in conjunction with an interior alteration, repair, replacement of a fuel-fired appliance, or addition in a single-family or multi-family residence.

Toxic Chinese Drywall

What should homeowners in these cities who have a new home built between 2001 and 2008 be looking for with respect to the Chinese Drywall?

--The house has to have been built or remodeled after 2000.

--Rotten egg or sulfur-type smell in the home or condominium

--Continuous failures of air conditioning coils, or HVAC units beyond anything normal

--Corroded, or black electrical wiring in their walls, in properties built, or remodeled since 2001.

--Mild to severe upper respiratory problems, nose bleeds, headaches or other potentially serious medical conditions.

--Ovens, stove elements, or refrigerator coils may have failed in the homes or condominiums a number of times.

--Silver jewelry or silver plated utensils may be tarnished
